The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) requires that all individuals filing Chapter 13 on or after October 17, 2005 attend a mandatory debtor education class certified by the United States Trustee Program. Failure to attend such a class prevents a Chapter 13 debtor from receiving a discharge, even if the debtor has completed the Chapter 13 plan confirmed by the Bankruptcy Court.
The Financial Literacy Course offered by The Seattle Chapter 13 Standing Trustee is an approved instructional course, and meets the requirements of the United States Trustee Program.
The instructor is qualified to teach the class, with 21 years of work experience at the Trustee’s office. He has a college degree and significant on-the-job training.
This two-hour class is offered free of charge on the 2nd Monday of each month from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and on the 4th Thursday from 10:00 AM to noon, at the Trustee’s office.
The Chapter 13 Standing Trustee does not pay or receive fees or other considerations for the referral of debtor students to the program or for referral of debtor students to other agencies.
You can enroll in this class online by clicking on a time in the calendar below or you can also enroll by calling 206-624-5124 ext. 117.
Each participant receives a certificate of course completion at the conclusion of class.
